update 4-19

Last week's testing went very well!  I was so impressed with how hard the students worked and did their very best.  Give your child an extra hug and congrats on the hard work.  :)

This week, we started our Biography Project.  The kids are reading two different biographies and will be comparing contrasting the people and making a set of mini-projects to go with it.  They are excited so far to read and learn about new people.

Did you see your child's planet report?  Those were sent home last week and turned out fabulous too!!  Hopefully some of these will be keepsakes for years to come.

Last Friday, we shared our Disease Prevention Kits.  They turned out really nice.  See the picture below. Each kid picked one artifact they really liked to put up on the bulletin board.

Reminders:
*Reading Log due this Friday
*Reading Counts Points due by May 20  (I met with each kid yesterday about this)

Update 4/11

This is our week of Language Arts testing.  Testing will take place Tuesday and Wednesday.  The kids are definitely ready.  Today we chatted about last minute tips for the test and calmed any nerves they had.

We also had one more battle of the essays.  Ask your child about it!  Posted below are pictures of the winners and the brackets.

This week, we also made games to review our reading skills.  We played them today and will continue to play them tomorrow too.   This week, we will also be reading about Arbor Day.  Kids will be creating posters and writing poems to celebrate this special day in honor of trees.  We have a special celebration in May with our mayor and some other community members in honor of this day.  The Arbor Day Craft and/or Photo is due by April 18.

This week, there is no reading log.  Kids should still be reading 20 minutes a night.  A project is due this Thursday related to Germs and Disease Prevention.  There will be some time in class, but if not finished, kids will have to complete it at home.  They will share these in small groups on Thursday.  It should be fun!
